Well, going into it, I expected nothing but some good old-fashioned playground football. After all, the starters were sitting, and many of the guys playing will be gone from the roster by sundown Friday. But there were actually a few nice developments; some encouraging signs.
 
Since I haven't posted any lengthy notes on the final three preseason games, let me just sum up here based on my big impressions.
 
Things I feel good about:

I hate to say this but the Cowboys have a few too many bad players or unproven players on the field to make it to the next level.  Until they fix this, we "might" be in a little trouble but it is hard to tell right now.  Here are the main issues as I see them:
 

The starting offense was on the field for only two (somewhat disappointing) drives, and the local television coverage made it tough to spot some of the jersey numbers I'd planned to look for. With all the usual caveats (this is only preseason, etc.) here are my random observations - a little heavier on play-by-play, since a lot of you outside Dallas may never see the game.
 

I had a great trip to the Hall of Fame last weekend, seeing the museum for the first time, and attending the enshrinement ceremony for Emmitt Smith on Saturday night. I did not stick around for Sunday night's game, though, and was on a plane headed home instead. As a result, I watched it very late Sunday night on the DVR. I took a few notes, but to be honest, I was dozing a little bit late in the game.
