Cowboys first selection - another outside LB!

SPEED - that is what I can say about Jason Williams. He ran faster at his pro day than most of the safeties in this draft. He is from such a small school in Western Illinois that not much is known about him - he got a lot of attention for his speed, strength and jumping ability.
I am not sure what this says about Greg Eillis and Anthony Spencer who I thought both played well last year when they played. I can tell you this - the Cowboys are very down on Spencer after his offseason arrest - they are trying to clean the house of all of this type of behavior. He is in the doghouse right now and this pick to me has to be a message pick...
He is not quite as big or strong as Spencer but he is faster and has much better coverage ability and measurables...
Wade Phillips can't get enough of these guys I suppose and with his scheme we can really use guys like this. In particular, Williams should be able to cover ANYONE coming out of the backfield with the kind of speed he has. You can see him as a Kevin Burnett replacement quickly with the potential to be a starter hopefully down the road.
After looking into his background, I can't argue too much with this pick...
The Cowboys just took
The Cowboys just took Brewster a Ball State tackle with the #75 pick with most people having him a a 5th round grade. I am pretty sure they could have drafted Rashad Johnson here and still gotten Brewster later - not sure what is going on - but I do know after the Sensabaugh signing they so see OL as a bigger need than safety.
Oh well I need to get back to packing for my move so I can't check in again on the draft until later...
Good times...

Makes me nervous when they
Makes me nervous when they pick offensive linemen, given the track record of the last - what, ten years? I don't know much about this guy, but from what I have read, this pick looks like a bit of a reach. And like you said, Danny, Rashad Johnson was still on the board.
A kicker? Really? I am
A kicker? Really?
I am scratching my head again...
<sigh> - what in the world
<sigh> - what in the world are they doing taking a kicker...I think they have no idea what to do with all these picks and it is starting to affect their decision making...

Not only does Brewster look
Not only does Brewster look like a reach but he already has bust written all over him. I hope I am wrong and that he develops but in the film I have just seen on him he doesn't look very strong and tends to give up too much ground at the initial point of attack.
If you want a good laugh and to get a little scared at the same time, please note that the kicker we drafted complete more 225 pound reps than Brewster did. His footwork does look ok so I guess they are hoping they can make him stronger. We will see in the long run I guess...they have done a good job of drafting the last few years but as Tim noted earlier the offensive line has been a bust factory for a while as well...
