More Mental

Submitted by Anonymous on Tue, 08/19/2008 - 03:27.

After watching the tape I can honestly say that game was lost more on the mental side than the physical. We played the Broncos pretty tough; our two biggest problems were executing the plays called, and penalties. During #86 first return we missed two keys block, which would have led to 6 points. On the blocked punt we always talk about what we are supposed to do in the case a kick is blocked, didn't happen. Defensively, we kept two scoring drive going because of penalties. We had great effort, just to many mental mistakes-small things turning into big things.

You know you get one guy to miss a call or blitz check and you give up 6 points or they get a pass interference call when the QB should have been sacked. I'm glad I watched the film before hand because I saw a lot of things that I couldn't see from the TV copy (hint to some of you TV coaches). One thing I will say our coaches are hell bent on getting those mistakes corrected before the game Friday.

This week should give fans a true idea of what kind of team will take the field this season. We all know the starters could play the whole game this week so there should be no excuse , not that you make excuses anyway.

I think this game will be very important for us for a few reasons:
1. See what we really have to work on as a team.
2. See what kind of personnel we have.

In the NFL it's important to be able to go 2-3 deep at some positions. Having individual substitutions versus mass substitutions will give us a chance to see how some guys play with the 1st team.
