OK - I only plug things that I truly believe in from personal experience. I have a lot of experience in this area so I thought I would pass along my findings just in case any of you decide to get into web design and hosting or are already doing some and are looking for a new place to host your pages.

I have been doing web design and hosting now for almost 3 years but this has been my most ambitious project yet. Before, I was doing sites for my wife, her bands, and various musicians in the Dallas area. I decided to branch out and start doing new types of sites and this site was my first project since I have always wanted a companion to the digest.

I will not name the other 2 companies I was with (and still with until my contracts expire) unless you send me a personal note in need of some serious advice. These companies were not bad but they were SLOW when it came to MySql connections and support issues.

If you start getting into serious web design then database speed is crucial. I had heard a lot of good things about lunarpages but they didn't offer as much space as the other companies until recently. When I saw how much space they were now offering for the price I decided to try them as they had a 30 day money-back guarantee.

I immediately noticed something that was superior to other companies - really good support - answering questions and addressing issues quickly which is huge. Then I started noticing the technical stuff - mysql service and web service on the same host which GREATLY speeds up connections. Also, they were running the latest versions of both MySql and PHP which my other companies were not - this also seriously speeds things up.

Bottom line is this - you guys can all feel the new speed and how this site now reponds. I am happy I can get back to managing the content of this site and not worrying about it taking over a minute just to come up. I know this sounds like some kind of advertisement - it really isn't. I just like passing on good things and good imformation when I can. I just want to save any of you thinking about getting into this kind if stuff the time and trouble of trying other hosts - I have been there - it is not worth it.
