Wide Receiver ROY WILLIAMS!!!

moose22's picture

Hey Gang, I just want to go
on Record, I'm so ONBOARD with today's
trade of WR - Roy Williams...he is a STUD
and is going to make our Offense click again!!!
GO LONGHORNS and GO COWBOYS!!!!!!!! I'm SOOOOOO
STOKED!!! This is going to improve our Passing
& Running game! This is a great day, not only
for this season, but; for many seasons to come!!!
JJ should of made this trade in the off season,
soon as he made the decision to let TGlenn go.

T.O., Jason Witten, Barber & Crayton will all
benefit!!! Defenses can only double-team so many
wide outs, look for Crayton to have alot more
open field and more catches and watch out
for Barber out of the backfield!!!

Life is GOOD!

Go COWBOYS!!!

I have to agree - this gives

I have to agree - this gives us an unprecedented amount of offensive weapons and what should now be considered the top receiving corps on the league. In particular, in the red zone we should now be very hard to stop - how do you effectively cover T.O., Witten and Williams, all very legitimate end zone threats along with Barber, Crayton and al the rest.

The only serious problem we have is unless we shore up this offensive line debacle we won't have any time to get the ball to all these weapons. Let's hope we make some adjustments there and SOON!

great trade, we would have

great trade, we would have used that first round pick for a WR next year anyway. Last year we were meshing early in the season, now with romo coming back in a few weeks and us getting some guys healthy we will be coming together as a team right when the playoffs are coming around which is exactly what we need.

GO COWBOYS!!!

Hey Justin - welcome aboard

Hey Justin - welcome aboard :)

I like your optimistic attitude already! I agree that we would have been using this pick to get a new young WR anyway and as far as the other picks we already have a roster full of talented young players - our job now is to get them to play to their potential not to just continually bring new potential talent in here...

Let's hope we make the playoffs and get a decent seed. The good news is no team in the NFL right now really scares anybody - if we get everybody healthy and get our schemes fixed to best suit our talent we will definitely scare lots of people.

Go Cowboys!

Danny, as I said on my

Danny, as I said on my response. Until the OL gets on track Dallas will struggle. They have to give Romo some time for the play to develop. They have to start opening some holes for Barber (and Felix upon return).

Thats a great point Don, i dont know what happend to the O-line we saw in the first few games but if they dont get it together whoever is at QB will not have time to get the ball to the recievers on a consistent basis.

Sorry for the delayed

Sorry for the delayed response. I've read some big sports press guys saying the Cowboys overpaid. I don't know how they can figure that. We gave up a 1, 3 and 6, and got back RoyW2 and a 7th. In April we traded down to stock picks, including an extra 3d, so we still have a 3d next year. We just got an extra 6th from Tennessee as part of the Pacman deal. So we got RoyW2 plus a 7th in exchange for a 1st round pick. It's fair to say that Roy has in no way proved himself to be a superstar, but does anyone seriously think he is not a first round talent? And a talent we do not need to groom into the NFL (WR is a position that often takes a few years to grow into, no matter how good you were in college.)

What I like best about the deal is that it is not a "win now" move at all. Owens is still in great physical condition, but he is not going to be here too many more years. We now have his potential replacement on the team, practically for free, and he can learn this offense and get comfortable with Romo while Owens is still a peak performer. He adds to the team now, and adds a few more years to our "window."

I guess I might question the five year deal (not the annual pay) a little bit, but I suspect Jerry structured it so there will be an out that won't break the bank if things don't work out. $9 million a year is the going rate, though, so that is fine.

This was a great deal. We got this guy for almost nothing. We likely would have used our 1st on a WR next spring anyway, but would (hopefully) not have been high in the draft, and still would have needed to teach the rookie. It's not a Herschel Walker deal, but this was smart and well played.

Agree whole heartedly with

Agree whole heartedly with Tim - I had this conversation with my brother almost word for word. My only "hesitation" is the UT bust factor from that particular era in UT - i.e. Cedric Benson, Vince Young, etc, etc - I have seen some good things from Williams in Detroit so hopefully that will transfer over to us here in Dallas...
